James was a footman at Cranleigh Hall and a victim of George Cranleigh.

By 1925, James was working at Cranleigh Hall as a footman. (TV: Black Orchid [+]Loading...["Black Orchid (TV story)"]) Because of his social standing, he was accustomed to being discreet about the behaviour of the Cranleighs and their acquaintances and did not speak publicly about the antics of the upper classes. On 11 June 1925, James and Henry both assisted at the Cranleighs' annual charity ball.
