The seventh series in The Early Adventures range of audios was released by Big Finish Productions on 17 August 2021. It featured both a sequel and a prequel to two classic stories, namely The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Abominable Snowmen, as well as the recasting of Dodo Chaplet, played by Lauren Cornelius.
Overview[[edit] | [edit source]]
Series 7 saw The Early Adventures range continue its new release format started with Series 6: two simultaneous releases in the year as opposed to one monthly instalment during a four-month period. It was also the first in which Alfie Shaw served as producer of the range, after David Richardson announced he would be stepping down from the position, although the scripts had been commissioned before Shaw assumed the role. (VOR 149)
Originally announced to be scheduled for release in 2020, (VOR 125) it in fact never materialised until 2021, just a few months short of two years after Series 6. During the intervening period, numerous Big Finish projects were disrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic. (VOR 137)
Both stories were closely tied to the William Hartnell era, but the series continued to play around with different elements in its approach. After the Daleks did not to feature the Doctor at all and instead followed Susan Foreman after she parted his company. While The Secrets of Det-Sen was more inline with the other standard Doctor-helmed storylines of the range, it was the first ever full-cast audio drama to feature Dodo Chaplet.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- After the Daleks was the first story in The Early Adventures not to feature the Doctor. All previous stories had either featured the First Doctor or the Second Doctor. In an interesting reversal, the story immediately preceding this one, Daughter of the Gods, which also featured the Daleks, involved both Doctors
- The Secrets of Det-Sen was the first ever story by Big Finish to feature Dodo Chaplet in a performed role. Hitherto, the character had only appeared in a handful of Short Trips and The Companion Chronicles. Jackie Lane, who played Dodo in the TV series, passed away just under two months before its release and, in tribute to her, the story was dedicated to her memory.[1]
- This is the third series of the range in a row to include a story involving the Daleks, though their role is significantly reduced compared to the previous two.
