Lieutenant Erin Grant was a 29th century Space Navy officer of the Earth Empire, who later became a companion of the Time Lord Rollo.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Erin was born in 2847. She joined the Space Navy, attending the Naval Academy on the Moon, and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant in the Navigation Department of the "immense" Imperial dreadnaught Nova. Over the years, she lost many of her friends to the Daleks, growing to bitterly hate them.

At some point, she encountered Rollo. Finding the concept of time travel and the Time Lords "fascinating and compelling", she abandoned her post to become his latest companion. On one occasion, by which point Erin was 28 years old, Rollo and his companions were summoned to Gallifrey to be briefed by Lady Rowella about a new assignment. The discovery of an energy weapon on 1980s Earth as an heirloom from its human owner's Victorian ancestor Colonel Malcolm Fraser had the Invasion worried about alien, and potentially time-active, activity in 1885 London. There, they discovered that Colonel Fraser had been buying a steady supply of alien artefacts from a pair of crooks called Jack Bannister and Bert Jenkins, who had secretly discovered a buried Iytean starship while trying to dig a tunnel into a bank two years prior. Unbeknownst to them, the ship had been a police vessel transporting an Iytean criminal. With the Iyteans being symbionts, the criminal had hitched a ride in Jenkins's body then transferred itself to Fraser's acquaintance Doctor Henry Jellicoe, causing him to periodically lose control of his body and adopt the malevolent persona of "Ned Hines". With the help of the Colonel's granddaughter Julia Fraser, and that of Thomas Carruthers, the son of his old friend Sir Reginald Carruthers (who had been murdered by Hines), the time-travellers were able to unravel the mystery and eventually neutralise the Iytean as well as ensure the starship would not be rediscovered and thereby derail Earth history any further. Before leaving 1885, Rollo went on one last outing in the city, and had lunch with a writer called Robert Louis Stevenson, telling him about the adventure. It was only when he returned to the TARDIS and told Verika, another one of his companions, about the encounter that he learned he had just inspired Stevenson to write The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Personality[[edit] | [edit source]]

Erin was "shy around people" despite her steadfast competence in a crisis. Despite plentiful leadership experience, Erin was deferential to the point of self-sabotage whenever she perceived someone as a superior, as she did all Time Lords on principle — refusing to speak her mind, only to later act out without prior warning when her own sense of what should be done got the better of her. She was "intensely practical and pragmatic" due to her years surviving against the Daleks, with strong self-preservation instincts, but her primary impetus for travelling in the TARDIS was to see the universe and all its wonders. Physical appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

A tall, slim woman, Erin was described as having a "lovely figure". She had shoulder-length auburn hair and dark eyes. Even after leaving her post, she continued to wear "the red-trimmed, short white skirt and boots that [were] the uniform of a female officer in the Space Navy of late Imperial Earth".(GAME: "Player Characters" [+]Part of The Iytean Menace, Loading...{"namedpart":"Player Characters","1":"The Iytean Menace (game)"})
