Forum:Request block template
I think it would be good to have a "request block" template. This could be a non visible template placed on user talk pages for those who are vandalising etc, the wiki. Right now we have to warn them, a few times, then report to an admin. If an admin is not available at that time, then the person may run riot through the wiki, vandalising at will. Personally, I really only know of User:Tangerineduel as an admin, so all my blocking requests go to them. If this template was made, I'm sure that all admins would be able to see which pages use it, then check each of the users out to see if the block is required. This would not depend on one specific admin logging on to fix the problem, but the first available admin will be able to fix it. Thoughts? The Thirteenth Doctor 22:24, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

- For the template, it wouldn't work with anons, since they can't have user pages. But in general, it could work to add a category that is marked hidden. -- sulfur 01:47, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

- If you're looking for regular admins Doug86 and Azes13 are both as present as I am.
- A template with a hidden category would work, but…if a user, who has been vandalising sees they've got a 'request block' on their talk page it may just be the fuel for the fire. Even if it's an invisible template you'll still need to put something on their talk page to make it work.
- On the other hand the vandalism template is partially about telling the user's that their recent actions have been vandalism, with links off to their recent activity and the vandalism policy.
- Also, blocking is something that's more urgent, so the place to put these requests is on an admin's talk page. This gets an immediate action, having a category for these things may not get an as immediate action as going to the admin's talk page.
- At the moment I just feel that it'll somewhat be doubling up on messaging given the often urgent nature of blocks, you'd need to leave the template and then message an admin to check out the category. But I'm not sure if a template is the way to go for this issue at the moment.
- On the occasion that a vandal does run riot in a major way when an admin isn't present, other elements of the wikia community step in these are the; VSTF (Spam Taskforce), Wikia Staff and Helpers, elements of which have stepped in when major vandals have been present on this wiki. --Tangerineduel 13:36, July 29, 2010 (UTC)
