I'd be keen to edit the wiki extensively in Finnish. Since the English version seems quite complete and comprehensive, I would like to make this wiki available in my other native language. Thanks forehand, Kozov0 ☎ 18:10, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
- Apparently the way it works is that someone has to create the wiki, and then we ask at Central:Interlanguage link requests for the new wiki to be linked here. So what address would you like the Finnish wiki to be at? It could be created at fi.doctorwho.wikia.com or at fi.tardis.wikia.com, or at another address if you prefer. We can create it at the address you choose, or you can make it yourself here. If you make it, just give us the address and we'll apply for it to be linked to us as the Finnish version of our wiki. —Josiah Rowe ☎ 03:15, August 6, 2012 (UTC)
- I have to step in here and gently contradict Josiah.
- If you are a native Finnish speaker, we encourage you to create the site. The administrate staff here will not and cannot create it for you. Creating a wiki would give us automatic administrative rights on the wiki. How can we administer wiki that is written in a language we don't even speak? Indeed, Wikia want non-English versions of sites to be handled by people who natively, or at least expertly, speak the relevant language.
- So, we here at Tardis really want a Finnish site, but it must be created by Finnish speakers.
- The name is also important. Please create it at w:c:fi.doctorwho — not w:c:fi.tardis.
- The "parent" English site — this site — is actually w:c:doctorwho — w:c:tardis is just a mask to the true name of the site. Thus, all non-English versions should follow this nomenclature and become w:c:xx.doctorwho, where xx represents a valid language code.
- Because we have linkages between all the various language sites, it's important that users around the world have a firm grasp of how to get to the "main" site in other languages. Thus we have w:c:es.doctorwho, w:c:fr.doctorwho, w:c:bg.doctorwho, w:c:nl.doctorwho and so on.
- If you create your site at w:c:fi.tardis we will not recognize it and we will not ask Wikia to make linkages between this site and yours. Again, please create your site at w:c:.fi.doctorwho.
