Any chess experts in the house?

In the commentary for The Sun Makers, Pennant Roberts says that the set-up for the match between the Doctor and K9 was based on the "endgame of one of the Garry Fischer/Kasparov cycle of chess matches". I assume he means Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov, but that's still problematic, as Fischer never played Kasparov. I think it's likely that he meant the famous 1972 world championship between Fischer and Boris Spassky, but I don't know for certain. Is anyone here a chess expert, sufficient to recognize the game or match it with the records of the 1972 matches? It would be nice to be able to point to the specific match that they copied. (I'm sure they did copy some specific match, because Louise Jameson refers to having to "sit down and learn the exact moves".) —Josiah Rowe talk to me 17:49, June 27, 2012 (UTC)
