Forum:New template for novel articles?
I know most of the novels are quite old, but would it possible to use a template that allows for the segregation of spoilers from the basic information? Maybe have the blurb at the top, a cast list of the main characters (without the little descriptions of them/what they do), then a detailed synopsis (with a small spoiler warning in the title) and below that notes, recurring characters, species, themes etc. This would tidy up the pages somewhat and allow users to browse through and be able to only read the brief description and cast without getting spoilt. - I think as you said a lot of the novels are quite old, (and as someone who has worked through at least half the total novels available) it would be a monumental task to rework them as you suggest. The References portion of the novel articles will slowly be re-worked so it conforms to other articles as being separated by category.
- With something as large as this we couldn't put a spoiler warning on everything, equally if we placed spoiler warnings in the novels, then we'd have to put spoiler warnings on everything else (TV stories, BF audios, BBC radio, BFBS) which is simply impractical.

- Well I don't mean one of the big spoiler banners being used on pages for episodes that have yet to air or are new, but rather like they use on Wikipedia for synopsises of novels, like this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Kill_A_Mocking_Bird . It's discreet, doesn't get in the way but does add protection to the reader. I know it'd be a lot of work in the long run to get all the pages to this sort of level, but I think it'd be worth it and I'm willing to substantially contribute to the task myself, as I'm currently rapidly expanding my novel collection so can just add as I go.
- I think the spoiler policy adequately addresses this issue, as there is a slight difference between wikipedia and a dedicated wiki. Though I shall wait for any admins (or anyone) to wade into this discussion. --Tangerineduel 12:09, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think the spoiler warning on the main page sort of absolves all the other pages from having to carry one, with the possible exception of pages relating to TV shows that haven't run in the UK yet (though why we should have pages like that at all... it's look at me I'm first with this tidbit of information-style one-upmanship if you ask me, and... oh, time for my medication again). I write that as someone who only reads about one new novel a year - but on the other hand living on the Pacific Rim I'm a bit more prone to TV-spoilerage than most folk are... --Gai-jin 14:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Gai-jin adequately explains current policy. Spoiler tags are only for things that have not been released anywhere in the world (but are still going to be released).
