Ok Im not saying I'm ready to do this yet, but ... Im looking through illusted guides and reference books at the moment and was wondering, where would I put behind the scenes information that is substantial and specifically related to the design etc of `aliens` for example? Im thinking about model making, inspirations, that sort of thing. I think its the in and out of universe issue, that is, the fact and the fiction. The Librarian 00:44, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

If it's something relating to a specific alien, e.g. Daleks or Cybermen, for example, I think a "Behind the Scenes" section in that alien's entry is perfectly apropos. Monkey with a Gun 05:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

I did this once before with something (it might possibly have been to do with YANA?) and was 'told' :) not to mix the fact and fiction on the same page. So I was just checking!: There is a lot more background material now that could be included, with for example pages on making the 456!

Incidently then, could under The Editor for example, Behind the Scenes, include the mention of the 5" character option tie-in toy, for example?? The Librarian 13:47, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Info can be placed in the Behind the Scenes section of the article. However, if you're writing something factual and sourcing the information from say the illustrated guides or other sources please cite your sources, use the ref tags, put a footnotes section and don't plagiarise. (see the Manual of style - Citation out of universe articles for further info). I say this just because this behind the scenes info has to come from somewhere, and if it's published in a book and we're adding it here we should provide references to where the info comes from and whatever. (It also saved me or another admin tagging everything with a {{fact}} tag and trying to find out where the info came from after the fact) Thanks.

As for the stuff like the toys that's something of a different kettle of fish. I suppose maybe, I think a link to the toy page rather than a gallery as they have a habit of domineering a page. With maybe a sentence or so explaining the toy and what it was a part of or something. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 15:23, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

If it's something that has, or could have its own Out-of-Universe article, I think that a "See Also" link at the end of the article. Toys would be an excellent example of this; at the bottom of the character page, a link to the toy's article. Monkey with a Gun 04:20, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

This conversation was so amorphous, it's hard to say if anything came of it, really. It's hard to know what The Librarian was initially asking.
