I was trying to get some information about traveling through dimensions which is a common occurrence in the Doctor Who universe. In particular, I was watching the seasons of the Fourth Doctor. In the "Robots Of Death" Baker explains that the Tardis exists in another dimension and while "Dimensional Transcendentalism" is explained in the series and the Index File I was confused when the younger Timelord Romana in "The Stones Of Blood" claims that "hyperspace" is a theoretical absurdity. hyperspace, simply defined is a reference to any dimension greater than the 3 or 4 dimension we are currently aware of. This episode confused my understanding of the premise the series uses to explain the Tardis itself which is supposed to transcend into a different dimension. But the questions remains, how can the Tardis "transcend" into another dimension and not be in another hyperspace dimension. Prima facie Dimensional Transcendentalism and Hyperspace appear to be related that does not seem to be the case in the "Stones Of Blood" episode. So how should the Tardis be explained? You plug the interocitor into the goobledegook generator and crank up the frammistat. I suggest earplugs. Boblipton talk to me 11:47, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

LOL. I suppose you're right it wouldn't have been very difficult for the writers to come up with a ficticious method but that still doesn't explain why the theory conflicts. Default user000 talk to me 18:43, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Default user000, you are incorrect in your initial assumption of what Hyperspace is in terms of the Doctor Who universe, check out the Hyperspace article, as well as the TARDIS article for more information, and probably have a look at Dimension, and probably Time and Space. --Tangerineduel / talk 12:06, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

I just checked the Index of Hyperspace and all it says is that hyperspace is "a dimension separate from normal space". But isn't that exactly where the Tardis(interior) exists? I think you're trying to say that these are the limitations of the Doctor Who Universe. But if they are going to use known theories then at the very least they shouldn't conflict. If anyone has another idea please let me know in this page without links to many other pages that don't really answer the question.Default user000 talk to me 18:42, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Alright I think I found the answer. While I was right about WHERE the individuals who "transcend dimensons" or travel into "hyperspace" are. The differnce betwen the two is HOW. The reason Romana, the younger Timelord says that it is a theoritical absurdity is because Hyperspace employs "Faster Than Light" travel. While Dimensional Transcendentalism uses a "Wormhole" or as it is referred to in the Doctor Who Universe, the "Time Vortex." The Time Vortex is a convenient shortcut that resolves the problem with travelling faster-than-light. So my mistake was not understanding HOW dimensional travel differed between "Hyperspace" and "Dimensional Transcendentalism." In short the Tardis does indeed go into another dimension using wormholes.Default user000 talk to me 18:43, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

To: TangerineDuel - I apologize if this was the explaination you were trying to give me but your links seemed to be going in very general directions. Default user000 talk to me 18:43, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
