Here are ideas and theories on Sontaran ranks:

Space Marshal. It could be to do with space-wars. I don't know. Any theories?

Battle Marshal. One was mentioned in when the Doctor recruited some to fight Morbious in Warmonger. It could be to do with battle. I don't know. Any theories.

Fleet Marshal. One was mentioned in Heroes of Sontar, an audio. It could be someone who is in command of all the fleets. I don't know.

Field Marshal. One was mentioned in an audio series about Sontarans. In our society, it's usually the highest of military-ranks. It could be, in Sontaran-society, to do with battlefields.

Group-Marshal. We all remember Group Marshal Stike in The Two Doctors. It could be to do with commanding battle-groups.

Marshal. A very high rank.

Admiral. One was mentioned in Shakedown: Return of the Sontarans. I theorise that it's above general and below marshal.

General. We all remember General Staal.

Colonel. Two Sontaran-colonels I remember were Snathe in The Betrothal of Sontar (a comic) and Sarg in a Doctor Who book.

Squadron Commander. I wonder whether it leads a squadron or not.

Commander. We all remember some certain commanders.

Battle-Major. One was a subordinate to the battle-major in Warmonger.

Field-Major. We all remember Field-Major Styre in The Sontaran Experiment.

Major. Two were known to me were Major Varl in the Two Doctors and the major in The Sontaran Games.

Captain. I found out that they have captains through one who was the second-in-command of the major who appeared in the Sontaran-Games.

Lieutenant. A junior rank. They included the dopey lieutenant in Shakedown, Skree who was Staal's third-in-command (the one who said 'Who can have such knowledge' and worked on the controls), and the two were worked under the major in The Sontaran Games)

Ensign. It's a theory. If admiral is a rank in that society, why can't ensign?

Sergeant. Two I remember were the one in The Betrothal of Sontar and the one in The Heroes of Sontar.

Corporal. I remember three..... two in The Betrothal of Sontar..... and an old veteran who said 'Do not panic' (one of the audio's references to Dad's Army) in Heroes of Sontar.

Warrior/Trooper.... the foot soldier and their equvilant of private.
