Alan Rothwell (9 February 1937[1]) voiced Byzar Janto in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio story The Twilight Kingdom.

He is a stalwart of British television, with a career that stretches back to the late 1950s starting in radio in Children's Hour and The Archers. His first major TV role was that of Charley Bates in the 1962 Oliver Twist miniseries. At the same time, he was a regular on Top Secret. In 1960 he was cast in the first episode of Coronation Street as the character of David Barlow, who he portrayed for the next 10 years. A prolific theatre/radio actor, he joined the cast of Brookside in the mid 1980s and then an active career thereafter, his next regular role wasn't until 2005's Dead Man Weds.

In the intervening years, he guested on some of the most iconic British series, including: Z-Cars, All Creatures Great and Small, The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes, Heartbeat, Shameless and Casualty. He also guested on two of Russell T Davies' 1990s and 2000s efforts, Queer as Folk and Bob and Rose. He also guest-starred in the feature films, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa and Walk Like a Panther.
