Antidote ray machine
The "antidote ray machine" was the device invented by the American scientist Jonathan Weems to counteract the effect of his immortality ray machine. When, not realising the danger it presented, Luther Kane stole the ray machine from Weems at gunpoint, Weems insisted that he take the antidote ray machine as well, warning him that he would need it. Kane didn't take him seriously, however, and placed the antidote ray machine out of his reach when he locked himself in his cellar and lay down on a slab to take in the immortality ray. By the time he realised the immortality ray was slowly petrifying him, he was already too paralysed to reach for the antidote ray. However, when telling Kane's time tale, the Fourth Doctor suggested that, as Kane now had eternity ahead of him, it was likely someone would eventually break into the crypt and use the antidote ray on him.
