Asphodel Meadows

The Asphodel Meadows was part of the Underworld in Greek mythology. According to Katarina, it was where the souls of ordinary people not capable of greatness spent the afterlife; she believed she was one of those ordinary people and thought of the Asphodel Meadows as the greatest Place of Perfection that it was possible for her to reach, though Jamie McCrimmon opined that she was more special that she viewed herself. (AUDIO: Daughter of the Gods)

When Katarina did reach the afterlife, she was judged neither good nor evil. When Persephone and a manifestation of the First Doctor appealed the judgement, on the grounds that Katarina had sacrificed her life to save others, Hades and the Judges of the Dead overturned their decision. Katarina was instead allowed to enter the paradise of the Elysian Fields. (PROSE: Katarina in the Underworld)
