Control (Pete's World)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

In Pete's World, Control was a call sign used by the individual who supervised the expeditions made to parallel universes via the dimension cannon. While Control remained in Pete's World, the travellers would keep in contact using a communications device on their person. (TV: The Stolen Earth)

Initially, the position of Control was assumed by Pete Tyler, who oversaw the expeditions made by Rose Tyler, originally the daughter of his counterpart from the Doctor's universe, as she searched through the universes for the Doctor, whose assistance was sought as the stars had begun to disappear. Before returning to the Doctor's universe, Rose visited and explored four parallel universes. The first was doomed to extinction when its own sun was extinguished. There, Rose found the counterpart of Clive Finch, who she had transported back against Pete's instructions as the dimension cannon was not yet guaranteed to accommodate two people. (AUDIO: The Endless Night)

In the second, the Earth had been struck by extreme global warming believed to have been covertly caused by aliens; despite a regression of technology in an attempt to slow it, it was predicted that humanity would become extinct within seventy years. (AUDIO: The Flood) For the third, Pete accompanied Rose while Clive assumed the role of Control. In that universe, Sir Pete Tyler founded SoulTech, which allowed the consciousness of deceased humans to live on in the soul machines. (AUDIO: Ghost Machines) In the fourth, the human race faced impending destruction at the hands of planetoid EK56. A common factor of these four universes, observed by Rose Tyler, was that there was no trace of the Doctor, or of the high-profile alien incidents which had threatened the Earth of the Doctor's universe. (AUDIO: The Last Party of Earth)

After appearing in a parallel world, (TV: Turn Left) Rose returned to the Earth of the Doctor's world during the invasion by the New Dalek Empire. There, Rose contacted Control for a shift, locking her onto the Doctor's TARDIS. The resulting shift transported her across London where she was reunited with the Tenth Doctor. (TV: The Stolen Earth)
