DWM 103 (The Thief of Sherwood)

The 103rd issue of Doctor Who Magazine was dated to 1985. It contained an "archive" of episode three of The Outlaws which was called "The Alchemist".

Ian's life is spared when the Doctor appears posing as an apothecary to King John offering to the tell the Sheriff a way of turning base substances into gold.

The Merry Men recapture Barbara and the peddler who tell them how to enter the castle. Robin goes with Little John to rescue Maid Marion but they are ambushed. Little John leaves Robin for dead and forced to reveal the location of the bandits' hideout to the Sheriff before being locked up with Ian.

The Sheriff sends his men to Sherwood Forest to kill the Merry Men and then visits the Doctor in the castle workshop. As the Sheriff watches the supposed creation of gold, the Doctor sets light to the mixture with the resultant explosion knocking the door of its hinges, rendering the Doctor and the Sheriff unconscious and filling the room with flames.
