The Grel were a humanoid race of data pirates native to the planet Grellor.

The Grel afterlife was called Slawcor (PROSE: Oh No It Isn't!) and they worshipped the god Maa'lon. (PROSE: Where Angels Fear)

In a version of history brought about by the Doctor's changes to the timeline, the Grel invaded Earth in the 2150s. Before they landed they released a gas on the planet to make its inhabitants lose all their knowledge. They planned to harness the planet's magnetic core and turn it into a moving library. Bernice Summerfield turned their gas back on them, making them lose all the knowledge they had gathered. Sixty-eight Grel were taken during the Deindum War to work for the Deindum in the slave camps on Bastion. Rather than working in the pits with the other slaves, the Grel became food-servers and maintenance workers. (PROSE: Adorable Illusion) Peter Summerfield met a Grel on Bastion who believed that he had died and gone to Slawcor.
