Hur
Hur of the Dancing Flame was the mate of Za, leader of the Tribe of Gum, circa 100,000 BC.

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]
Hur was the daughter of Horg, one of the old men of the Tribe of Gum. As a woman, Hur was to be the mate of whomever her father chose to give her to. She loved Za, the son of the Firemaker.
She stood by Za even as he struggled to maintain leadership over the tribe against the outsider Kal after his father's death. Whilst Za attempted to make fire, she kept him updated with what the old men of the tribe were saying, including her father's plans to give her to Kal should he become leader. Meeting the strangers[[edit] | [edit source]]
Hur and Za both understood the urgency of learning the secret of fire from the First Doctor, Susan Foreman, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright after Kal brought them to the tribe. She alerted Za when she suspected that the old woman planned to kill the strangers before they could make fire and later convinced Za of their need to recapture them upon their escape, despite the dangers of the forest.
She was puzzled as to why Ian would help her and Za, who had been injured by an animal during their pursuit. Because of the wisdom she and Za saw in these strangers, and especially because of her loyalty to her mate, Hur tried to hold back the tribe members led by her father, who sought to kill the strangers and depose Za. She refused to listen to the strangers' pleas to be set free, even after they had saved Za by giving him the secret of fire.
Hur made the horrifying discovery of flaming skulls in the Cave, a ruse devised by Ian. Once the ruse was discovered, Hur joined her mate and the other tribe members in pursuit of the strangers, watching in amazement as the Doctor's TARDIS vanished into thin air. (TV: An Unearthly Child)

Like the rest of the Tribe of Gum, Hur became an immortal thanks to the Prometheans, calling herself Hur of the Dancing Flame. She died with her tribe in 2013 after turning against the Prometheans. (COMIC: Hunters of the Burning Stone)

Hur stood by Za during his struggle to maintain power and told him what she learnt from her father. She did not understand why Ian would help her and Za. (TV: An Unearthly Child)
