Jacqui McGee was a journalist and ally of UNIT.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Early life[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jacqui won a swimming trophy when she was in school and was given a certificate for essay-writing. She once spent over a year living with her aunt, possibly because her parents were abroad. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter)

As a teenager, Jacqui visited the National Gallery to see The Ambassadors (AUDIO: The Curator's Gambit) and once had a crush on a female friend. (AUDIO: Narcissus) She studied at Heriot-Watt where she befriended Adam Merchant (AUDIO: The Enemy Beyond) and Elaine, but lost contact with most of her friends after university. She went on Elaine's hen night before her and Robin's wedding and, nine years later, she joked that she was still recovering from the night. (AUDIO: Death on the Mile)

Jacqui went on to become a journalist at Orbit TV News. (AUDIO: Vanguard) She heard about Christina de Souza, but thought that she was fictional, and learnt about the Slitheen and their weakness to vinegar. (AUDIO: Death on the Mile) She was once in a relationship with Mike, a police officer who remained a contact of hers. (AUDIO: Long Shot)

Investigating Devlin[[edit] | [edit source]]

After repeatedly trying and failing to get an interview with Simon Devlin, Jacqui went to the launch of the 3D Futuretech Model 1 with Tim Stevens in disguise, using Leslie Morris's name. She met Kate Stewart and, knowing of her connection to Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, planted a micro-tracker in her jacket and followed her to the site of a Nestene energy unit. Osgood detected the tracker on Kate and, after Josh Carter captured her, she administered a hypospray to remove her memories of the previous twenty-four hours. (AUDIO: Vanguard)

Jacqui learnt of several suspicious deaths through her contacts in the police and at hospitals and, believing that they had been caused by interference with the 3D Futuretech Model 1s, kept an eye on Devlin's headquarters. She followed Kate after she left the building and informed her and Josh of the unexplained deaths before returning to her spying. (AUDIO: Earthfall)

After hijacking a news segment to warn about the deaths connected to the printers, Jacqui called a contact at Futuretech whose calls were monitored by Devlin. Devlin had Autons bring her to his headquarters, believing that she was working with UNIT, and left her to be killed by them, but she was saved by Josh. She was removed from Orbit TV News before she could tell her story and was kidnapped by Autons a second time after being approached by Kate. Again, she was saved by Josh. (AUDIO: Bridgehead)

Jacqui was taken to the Tower of London for her safety and accompanied Osgood, Josh and Vikram Shindi to the cordon around Devlin Futuretech. She was frightened by the Autons, however, and ran away instead of helping Osgood with her directed energy beam. When the invasion was covered up, Jacqui spoke out against UNIT as "the Eyewitness" and told her viewers not to drink the water, correctly suspecting that UNIT had put a memory agent in the water supply. (AUDIO: Armageddon)

Silent exodus[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jacqui became aware that Shindi was watching Helena Faversham's house and met with Kate at the London Eye, revealing that she was the Eyewitness and using a jammer to keep Kate from contacting Josh Carter. She showed her footage of dozens of hooded people entering Miss Faversham's house and failing to return, although the people were impossible to count and somehow distorted the image. (AUDIO: House of Silents)

Jacqui was irritated that Kate seemingly ignored her information on Miss Faversham and reassigned Shindi and decided to pursue her own investigation. She had David put together a list of those who entered Miss Faversham's house and did not disappear and informed Kate that they were mostly bloggers and marketing executives. (AUDIO: Square One)

Following the Silents' apparent defeat, Jacqui met Shindi outside of the British Rocket Group site and insisted that he think about how the Silents might have altered UNIT's memories. Shindi returned her to London and, later, she received one of Osgood's visors from David and used it to gain access to Mission Control. Shindi saved her from being killed by the Silents and she used the visor to remind Kate of everything that happened with Kenneth LeBlanc. After some of the Silents escaped, Jacqui hacked into the news feeds and inserted a recording of a Silent saying that humanity were the masters of Earth. (AUDIO: In Memory Alone)

Work with Sam[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jacqui put together false identities for Kate, Osgood, Shindi and Josh when they went to Monte Bosque after Sam Bishop tracked the Auctioneers' sale of a Dalek to Captain Maria Gonsalves. (AUDIO: The Dalek Transaction) She continued to assist UNIT and was considered invaluable by Kate. (AUDIO: Narcissus)

Jacqui received a call from Elaine and agreed to help investigate why Robin was acting strangely. Her investigation led her to Edinburgh Castle where she killed two Slitheen with pickled onions and gherkins and saved the captive Sam and Christina de Souza. She left with the two of them in the 200 and, after redirecting lava, saving Elaine and moving Edinburgh Castle to King Arthur's Seat, Jacqui was surprised when Christina apparently sacrificed her life. Sam soon learnt, however, that she was still alive. (AUDIO: Death on the Mile)

Looking for a story, Jacqui helped Sam investigate monster sightings around Exousia Solutions' power station in Kent and had to contend with a Baryonyx and the Clan of War Bears. The two of them slipped back to 1971 and formed an alliance with Leif and his men, who subsequently defeated the Wampeerix. Josh returned everybody home with the Wampeerix technology and Jacqui bemoaned the fact that the story of her experiences was unpublishable. (AUDIO: The Power of River Song)

After Alfred de Souza became infected by alien crystals, Jacqui joined Sam in tracing Christina in the hopes of locating him. They tracked the 200 to Eugenia de Souza's residence in the Outback and, after Sam detected unusual activity there, went to the Jajutuma crater and were forced to parachute from a helicopter when a giant caterpillar attacked. Jacqui and Sam tried to stop Eugenia from using the giant moths' rejuvenating light and, after Sam gave her a compassionate death, they found that Eugenia's treasure had been stolen. (AUDIO: Outback)

Jacqui learnt from Mike that people to whom Alfred owed money had vanished, leaving piles of jewels behind. She informed Sam, who went off to investigate without her, and later spotted him at the Royal Northcote Races on the television, posing as a waiter, but was unable to get access without a ticket. Thanks to Christina, she got a compromising photograph of Sam and Ivo Hislop-Cannon in Christina's penthouse. (AUDIO: Long Shot)

Run-ins with UNIT[[edit] | [edit source]]

Upon becoming aware of a spate of disappearances in London, Jacqui informed Kate but was initially told that it was not within UNIT's remit. She realised that her Narcissus account had been hacked and investigated, finding Osgood's double in her form and unconscious in a hotel room, for which she lacked the clearance for an explanation. She interviewed Jordan Love and was kidnapped, but later helped UNIT clear up the debacle by reporting that the kidnapped people had been forced to farm lettuce in Norfolk. (AUDIO: Narcissus)

Now working for Out There News, Jacqui covered Adam Merchant's mission off the coast of Scotland, staying with her parents in Edinburgh whilst she did so, and put him in touch with Kate when his team found the Arch. Merchant visited her after he returned from the Void World with the Eleven and she called Kate after seeing his hands producing webs, but he slipped away before UNIT arrived. (AUDIO: The Enemy Beyond)

Despite a news blackout, Jacqui reported on the Eleven and Ava Drake's robberies and met with Josh to discuss them. She bribed a member of Ava's gang into planting a bug and later took a boat to Middle Mouse where Osgood was analysing the Arch. There, she was taken hostage by the Eleven and Ava and thrown into the sea from a helicopter, after which Kate kept her sated by giving her access to some "salacious" files on David Attenborough. (AUDIO: Eleven's Eleven)

Jacqui's investigation into Ava's death led her to the National Gallery where the Eleven captured her and took her with him into J. M. W. Turner's painting of Hampton Court Palace in the Under Gallery. The Curator saved her, but she was controlled by the Eleven until Osgood jammed his device. She then took the Eleven's disruptor and fell through the Arch, arriving on the Void World where the disruptor exploded and killed Valariss. (AUDIO: The Curator's Gambit)

Serving Varliss[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jacqui was imprisoned for Valariss's murder. (AUDIO: The Curator's Gambit) She was educated in Vulpreen history (AUDIO: The Man From Gallifrey) and brainwashed into thinking that she was one of them, making her sympathetic to their aims to conquer Earth. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter) Lord Varliss had her released and sent her to Earth with Orgus to recover the Eleven, but Orgus was killed by Kate and Jacqui pretended that she had been a hostage.

Jacqui was taken to Harry Sullivan, (AUDIO: The Man From Gallifrey) who thought that she seemed distracted but was otherwise fine. She discharged herself. (AUDIO: Power of the Dominators)

Pretending to be oblivious, Jacqui helped the Eleven and pulled Osgood with her through a time fracture and into the future. She told Osgood to download information on the humans' weapons during their war with the Vulpreen, claiming that it would assist UNIT, but Osgood realised her true loyalty. Jacqui returned to the 2010s without Osgood and told Josh that she had died before Osgood's message on the holo-drive exposed her. (AUDIO: The War Factory) Jimmy Tan took her to a secure location. (AUDIO: Ten Minutes in Hell)

Death[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jacqui was taken to Tromsø and tried to hold onto her human identity using photographs and clippings of her newspaper articles. Kate visited her to ask her about the asteroid ship and Varliss, whom Jacqui contacted using a Dreamstone and an Old Vulpreen chant, ordered Jacqui to kill her. Kate shocked her with an exposed wire, however, and she regained control. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter)

Jacqui led Kate, Osgood and Jimmy to a fjord when the Vulpreen arrived and remained behind to distract them whilst they escaped. She was captured by Krillen and taken to Beijing where she was confined to a compression cube and met Yang Li, whom she helped escape. Jacqui recorded messages for the UNIT Cloud and told Kate about them in Morse code by blinking in Krillen's message and was found, but she chose to detonate a temporal grenade to kill herself and Krillen and destroy the arch. She died in Kate's arms. (AUDIO: By Jacqui McGee)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Yang Li felt indebted to Jacqui and assisted UNIT, who later held a small memorial for her. (AUDIO: Axos Unleashed)

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

Jacqui was a redhead. (AUDIO: Vanguard) Christina de Souza told her that her hair was "delightful". (AUDIO: Long Shot)
