Knitwear was a type of clothing that was knitted.

According to the Eleventh Doctor, there existed an ancient Gallifreyan legend which said that the species descended from knitwear. The Doctor, when explaining how Time Lords were born to Jack (a reader of Doctor Who Adventures), cited this legend, suggesting that it was possible due to several reasons, such as his bellybutton fluff, his scarf phase and Time Lord DNA going "knit one, purl one".
