Masada

Masada was a hill fortress in Judaea which housed close to a thousand people. (PROSE: The Last Days)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Approximately two thousand years before the 20th century, it was the site of a siege following a Jewish revolt against the Roman Empire. Before the Romans breached the gates, all but two of the Jews committed suicide. The First Doctor and his companions were involved in those events. (PROSE: The Last Days)

In 1972, during an archaeological dig, an anachronistic Spitfire was discovered under it. The Third Doctor and Jo Grant worked along with the local UNIT to solve the mystery. (PROSE: The Suns of Caresh)

The Eighth Doctor compared his destroying Gallifrey, which had been conquered by Faction Paradox, to what happened at Masada. (PROSE: The Gallifrey Chronicles)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

In the real world, the Siege of Masada occurred in around 74 CE, however no such year is given in PROSE: The Last Days, other than the fact that the twentieth century was around 2000 years in the future.
