Middlewitch
Mr Middlewitch was a Time Lord from the days of the Civil War with Morbius's supporters. Before Rassilon's death, Rassilon had his opponents stripped of their Time Lord gifts and expelled from the Capitol to become Outsiders, including Middlewich. However, when the War erupted, they were offered the chance to earn their way back to what they'd been by serving in the High Council's army.
He served under Captain Sylva Argento as the First Mate of the Proteus. In battle, he saved a felled Argento and turned the tide of battle, leading the crew to victory. After returning to Gallifrey, the mortally wounded Argento was awarded a regeneration as commendation, making her a Time Lord again — while Middlewich received nothing. During the last voyage of the Proteus, he brought Gilda onto the ship to care for Argento, who was suffering from a condition which had yet to be dubbed regenerative dissocia. As the Captain's behaviour became increasingly erratic, the crew pressed him to mutiny, trusting him more than they did Argento, but Middlewich proved unwilling to move again his old friend even as he disagreed with her decisions. Middlewitch was captured in his sleep, waking to find himself tied up; the telepathic Hydran Veritas then transferred the copy of Morbius's mind which he had carried within him into Middlewich. Possessing Middlewich, Morbius forced a regeneration on him using his own powers, functionally killing Middlewich as Morbius was granted [[Morbius (Morbius)|a new lease of life.
