ОГРОН (Оперативная Группа Разведкой Объединённых Наций) or OGRON (Operativnaya Gruppa Rasvedkoy Obyedinyonnih Natsiy) was the Russian division of UNIT by the early 21st century. The name translated roughly to "United Nations Reconnaissance Operations Group". (PROSE: Emotional Chemistry)

A USSR contingent of UNIT was formed in the 1970s. It was widely believed to be an arm of the GRU (Soviet Military Intelligence). (PROSE: An Army of Shadows)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Clearly, the author, Simon A. Forward, chose this name as a humorous reference to Ogrons.
  • The name ОГРОН was also used as the name of UNIT in Russian version of Doctor Who produced by Channel One and aired on children's TV network Karusel (a joint venture between Channel One and VGTRK).
