The role of the purchasing assistant is similar to that of the contracts assistant, in that both must submit and process vendor contracts within the financial department.
As of 2016[update], the only purchasing assistant credited in the history of the DWU has been Natalie Newbigging, who served that role on Adrift, an episode of Torchwood.
