Randolph Bane

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Randolph Bane was the owner of the "Bane Incorporation" and one of the few people with the ability to manipulate the Doctor's amaranth. In life, Bane was extremely agoraphobic and actively sought out to become immortal.

Due to his immense agoraphobia, Bane lived within a hermetically-sealed bunker on Earth and only interacted with robotic life. As CEO of the Bane Incorporation, Bane became one of the most rich and influential people within the galaxy. Despite all of this power, one thing alluded him. The ability to stop his own aging. While he could greatly slow the process, he was unable to completely stop it. Despite this, he attempted to cling onto life as much as possible. During the Third Dalek War, the Incorporation developed a technique known as "the Haze" for the Space Legion while also being responsible in the "disappearance" of numerous Space Legion soldiers in the War for experiments. Despite this, immortality seemingly completely eluded Bane until he found something revolutionary,

While for many years, the amaranth (which took the form of a clockwork egg) was held within the Grey Museum of the Shadow Directory, Bane managed to steal it from the Museum during the twenty-sixth century. After hooking an employee known as Simon Deed (or "Employee One") to it, Bane set about using the amaranth to bring about his own immortality in an event known as the Conversion. This also began creating various somewhat ephemeral alternate timelines which sat within the "main" timeline. Unfortunately for Bane, Deed was only able to influence reality to a small extent. As such, he decided to kidnap beings that had experienced time travel to make the amaranth more and more powerful.

The first time travellers to fall into Bane's clutches were members of the crew of the interdimensional vessel Schirron Dream. While the ship (alongside Sgloomi Po and most of its crew) escaped, Bane was able to capture Nathan li Shao, Leetha t'Zhan, and Kiru and subject them to various alternate hellscapes. Along with this, Bane was seemingly able to capture Mr. Jackie Pelt (who had introduced Deed to the egg). In an effort to stop the threat lurking in Earth, Sgloomi Po found Chris Cwej, Jason Kane, Bernice Summerfield, and Roz Forrester (whom Sgloomi accidently grabbed from earlier within her own timespan) and unwittingly brought them into the clutches of Bane.

After the Dream landed on Earth for the second time, Bane was able to capture its crew and bring them into his inner sanctum. From here, Bane intended on making them experience absolute hellscapes to power the egg. Unfortunately for him, Roz and Sgloomi managed to escape this fate. While Bane initially tried to destroy them once again, they were able to escape his clutches. Bane attempted to strangle Roz but the Adjudicator was able to destroy the egg. This caused the now-dessicated corpse of Simon Deed to revive and break Bane's neck before the two were trapped in a localised pocket of repeating time.
