Scientific research centre
The scientific research centre was a Dalek breeding factory located in the City of Winter. It was linked to the city palace via secret passageways.
The Daleks and the Grand Marshall of Winter hid the truth about the research centre from the population. They claimed it was used to research and invent new methods of farming and food production that could be employed during the planet's 500-year-long winters.
People deemed intelligent enough in exams were sent to work the research centre after a graduation ceremony. However, to keep the truth a secret, none of them were ever allowed to leave. 200 years worth of graduates met this fate, transferring young Dalek mutants into casings constructed in other factories.
When the First Doctor arrived in Winter, Steven Taylor, Vicki Pallister and Amala Vost were able to infiltrate and escape the research centre with one of the graduates, Amala's brother Kenrik. Once the truth was exposed, the city rose up against the Daleks in armed revolt and drove them out until they were besieged inside the research centre.
