Spulver worm
Spulver worms were flesh-eating parasites. They evolved on the third moon of Aayavex after the indigenous population wiped itself out in a global genetics war.

Spulver Worms were incredibly durable, able to survive for decades without eating, to grow at a phenomenal rate, and to survive terrible wounds. They hunted by temperature alone and had no other sensory organs. They had a cluster of tentacles at one end of their bodies, which they used for hunting. (PROSE: Coldheart)

A cargo ship passed through the Aayavex system and picked up a young Spulver worm from Aayavex III. It crash-landed on Eskon. The worm survived, although it was badly wounded, and began to grow and reproduce, producing over a million eggs. The pus from the wounded Spulver worm in the ice mine released Spulver DNA into the water supply. Once digested, it overwrote the genetic material of the Eskoni, producing the Slimers.
