Spyrillite
The Spyrillites were creatures from the Void. They fed on artron energy, being drawn to dying space-time vessels that gave it off. As they consumed the vessel, they also fed on its crew, preventing anyone in the past from discovering time travellers. According to the Twelfth Doctor, these events inspired ghost stories.
The Spyrillites were drawn to a dying TARDIS in the 21st century, the Doctor letting them in so he could take advantage of their homing instincts to find the ship's control room. Once he'd found it, he triggered the ship's dematerialisation sequence, taking the Spyrillities with it, though he confident that they'd escaped before the TARDIS reached the star he'd programmed it to travel to.
