Taxidermy was the science and art of preserving a dead animal by blending together natural and artificial elements to create an anatomically realistic representation of that animal. Joe Hartley was an expert taxidermist whose models were used in anatomy classes at a Scottish university. Ace, Hex and the Seventh Doctor all saw his studio, which was crammed with all manner of taxidermic examples, including bears, deer, alligators, eagles, wolves, rabbits and foxes.
