The Girl Who Stole the Stars was the thirteenth short story of The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who, featuring the Seventh Doctor.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Doctor, Ace and Raine follow Raymond Luthier to the University of Kent, where his arrival is met by protests against the Canterbury AI. They break into the administration office and find the address of Gina Gulpin, whom they visit in Beltinge and learn that Luthier is not clever enough to have invented the AI himself.

Using Gina's virtual reality system, Ace and Raine hack into the Canturbury AI. Gina realises that the AI is a scam; it is actually a gateway for a crowd-sourcing project which exploits human minds across the developing world and pays them a pittance, allowing Raymond to get rich. Ace and Raine end the game and the Doctor tells Gina to release the so-called AI as an open resource for which the crowd-source workers will receive shares of the revenues.
