commas[[edit source]]

We seem to be having a wrangle about commas. In particular, you seem intent on making sure that commas appear in places where they are not optional (as they may be when preceeding "and"; I cut those out anyway unless they are mandatory) but others in which you think they mark off a subordinate clause -- which, if they were, would be mandatory. However, your analysis is wrong.

In particular, in the article on Julie Legrand, you have

Julie Legrand played the Partisan in the Doctor Who story, The End of Time.

It's a fairly subtle point, but The End of Time is not a subordinate clause which further defines the preceding. This can be better appreciated by removing it.

Julie Legrand played the Partisan in the Doctor Who story.

This sentence is nonsense. It leaves you hanging for definition, because there is no item which can reasonably be called "the Doctor Who story." I think you have confused this with what would have happened had the indefinite article been used. Had the sentence read

Julie Legrand played the Partisan in a Doctor Who story, The End of Time.

You can remove the clause and still have a meanginful, if vague sentence. This difference renders the phrase a subordinate clause.

Anyway, I am going to leave this particular article alone until the normal course of events (hitting it on the random button or noticing that it has recently been edited a lot and so may need a cleanup) brings it to my attention again to give you a chance to think about this. Sorry to lecture a fellow decent writer -- it embarasses me to do so -- but we seem to be working at cross purposes here. Boblipton talk to me 14:10, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Uncat images[[edit source]]

I actually want to wait until 31 December to do the next clean, precisely because I'm expecting an influx of new, unlicensed images.

However, earlier today, I made some changes that might stem the tide of unlicensed images. Open an edit window and hit the add photo button on the right. You'll see much clearer instructions.

Oh, also, preloads work again, though I'm still tinkerin' just a bit.

Adminship[[edit source]]

Hello, Mini-mitch, with my greatest copliments, I woul like too become an admin, for mostly, improving this Wiki. (Please note that I know how to work being an admin, I'm the only on Just William Wiki!) Metardis talk to me 14:05, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

Hi, in the reply you sent me, just now I realised that after I made the mistakes on policies I got blocked for 24 hours. I'm trying not to make this mean, regards - Metardis talk to me 08:44, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

is it all right?[[edit source]]

me again, is it all right if I archive your reply and then ask User:Tangerineduel if I can be one? Also, do you leave nonimations on the talk page of the link you sent me, or on the page? Metardis talk to me 14:26, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

Outnumbered[[edit source]]

Shouldn't Category:Actors who appeared in the Outnumbered franchise be Category: Actors who appeared in Outnumbered? It's not a franchise, as it consists of the original TV show and nothing else. No spin-offs, no video games, no merchandise, no other media except for DVD releases. Digifiend 00:35, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Images[[edit source]]

I'm sorry for the Pictures. There were none I could find without the logo's.

Songs category deleted[[edit source]]

I created a new Category:Stories with songs, which you promptly deleted. I'd love to know why. Did I miss a policy somewhere? -- Gousha talk to me 19:15, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the explanation. My intent was to have a category for those stories where there's singing involved, but I also quickly realized it could be diluted with background songs. I didn't have a good solution for that. I'll endeavour to put more thought into any new categories in the future. -- Gousha talk to me 21:03, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

Brilliant Books[[edit source]]

Thanks. I've gotten through all of the 2012 pages except The Moon, and I plan to tackle 2011 the next few days.

On a side note, I see you've deleted a few pages that were 100% based off of the book, but wouldn't it be better to keep them under the "Non-canon" category? Like we've done The Master (Scream of the Shalka) and Splinx? Just to expand the wiki to its limits, if nothing else. Thanks for the help! OS25 (talk to me.) 01:18, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

Category creation[[edit source]]

You seem to be in a "Category: Actors who appeared in XXX" mood. While some of the elder ones seem to have little in the way of linkage to Doctor Who apart from the fact that busy supporting actors turn up everywhere, most do have some "stickiness". Could you explain your criteria for these new categories? Boblipton talk to me 00:41, December 31, 2011 (UTC)

Images[[edit source]]

I got a message from you about a week ago regarding the images I uploaded, and that they had to be deleted due to having network logos on them, though I've seen Loads of images on different pages on this wiki which have network logos on them, though they weren't deleted! So how come only mine were Deleted??!!

Stop[[edit source]]

I wasn't ignoring you. I simply hadn't looked at my talk page yet. Once I had noticed your message, I did stop, thank you very much, and plan to follow your advice. The only reason that I edited Dancing the Code again is that you reversed some of the edits which weren't related to the setting part of the infobox.

can you delete the category I just made?[[edit source]]

Hi. I know this would be a bit of bother, but could you delete Category:Real world musicians whose work appears in Big Finish audios? I made it and thought there would be some pages that linked. Thanks. !Ṃěṭáṛ[[|đί]]'Ṣ'!  2024 Fri at pm 17: 00

Be judicious with pic deletion[[edit source]]

I again urge you to read T:IUP UNUSED. Our rules, which do come from community discussion, clearly establish that a picture should not be deleted simply because it's unused. I've pointed this out to you before and yet you still appear to be basing many of your deletion decisions solely on their presence on Special:UnusedFiles.

I again remind you that a number of pictures which I upload are not obviously linked. I try my best to make it clear in revision notes, protection rationales, and upload notes that these pictures will appear to be unlinked. I know you started some kind of page where you link some of these pages, but it is not my job to remember to make a link on that page. T:IUP UNUSED makes it very clear that it is the job of the deleting admin to carefully assess the situation on each picture.

It's unlikely that you carefully assessed the situation at file:zeroroom.png before you deleted it. It had several notes in several places showing that it was a file in current use. Because you deleted it, I had to take the time to restore it, and to go back into the CSS and change the URL. When you restore a pic, it's always at a different URL than before the deletion occurred. So it's not as simple as just restoring a file. I have to do additional work when I restore a file used by CSS.

Special:UnusedFiles is a useful tool, but it is not a list of files that need to be deleted. It's a list of files which do not meet the criteria of being "used". That doesn't mean they won't be in the future, or that they aren't being used in a non-traditional way. Remember, too, that Special:UnusedFiles uses cached results. Consequently, files can appear on the list which actually are currently linked. The linkage simply may have occurred after the report was generated.

Doctor Who minis - reference site[[edit source]]

Hi,

I've recently updated the Doctor Who miniatures section over at the Lost Minis Wiki (http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Category:Doctor_Who).

I'd very much appreciate any feedback on missing figures/manufacturers. Also if you have any of these miniatures and could contribute a missing or better picture* then please go ahead (or send me the file). I'm also looking for catalogs, magazines and adverts showing these at the time of production (Jpgs or PDFs preferred).

I hope you find the section informative and useful. Thanks for looking and please pass this on to anyone else you know who may be interested.

regards

Andrew (Tiki Gamer @Lost Minis Wiki)

X Century individuals[[edit source]]

So, it's less about common sense (i.e. this person didn't just spring out of the ground) and more about categorizing them based on our perceptions of them through the show? Memnarc talk to me 23:37, January 29, 2012 (UTC)

Allies and enemies[[edit source]]

I've started a discussion Forum:What makes an ally and an enemy?. I didn't include companions in this discussion as any discussion of companions would quickly wash out any discussion there, we've also got several previous discussions concerning what makes a companion, so those would need summarising and looking at before we look at starting another discussion. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:28, January 31, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Kind Sir (Mini-Mitch) (Information regarding the Thirteenth Doctor's unwelcoming behavior, "Scaring New Members Away from this Wiki with Threats"[[edit source]]

Thanks for undoing my mistake by accidentlly editing the thirteenth doctor's profile. I didn't mean to publish that. Also do you think that Tardis Index File is a friendly eviroment for new wikia people, because someone told me that their first five edits on wikia were on this wiki, and that the thirteenth doctor undid them, because he/she said that it was too much content for Earth Reptiles or something, then blocked my friend on his first ever wikia edits.

Hidden categories[[edit source]]

I hadn't even noticed that the option went away. I have sent in a bug report to Wikia staff, explaining our particular need to have the option restored. I doubt they'll actually go for that. However, I do think they'll probably allow the trickle of people from here that need to be able to see hidden categories to request it be manually enabled by a staff member. I'll let you know what happens as soon as they reply.

All I know is that it is possible to see hidden categories still, because I see them daily. This indicates that the option still exists somewhere in the true user preference file, only a portion of which we operate through Special:Preferences.

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
