Variforms were gaseous creatures that were constantly adapting to their environment. One variform referred to as a "Djinn" was water-vapour based, and was trapped in a flask on Earth for two thousand years before Missy freed it in the 19th century. (AUDIO: A Spoonful of Mayhem)
