William Watkins was the father of Charlotte Elkins. During the American Civil War, Charlotte's home was attacked by deserters. William met them as they approached the house, and at first believed their leader, Lucius Casler, who claimed that he was a friend of Charlotte's husband. When he became suspicious of the men, one of them, Earl Baker, shot and killed William. (PROSE: Comforts of Home)
