The Yl-caan were a warlike species.
To get access to the space travel technology of Lady Irna's people, War Lord Mackal married her. When she later transformed into a beast, he was told she had been killed. This led to conflict between the Yl-caan and Irna's people. (COMIC: Nature of the Beast!)
