Æthelred I was a king who led an army of Saxons in battle against the Vikings in Hampshire on 22 January 871, where his forces were defeated. Before the battle, a mysterious figure dressed as a monk was seen attempting to sell Æthelred used stun blasters. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary)

Alfred the Great mentioned Ethelred along with his father Ethelwulf, Ethelbald and all his older brothers as good men who died fighting the Danish invaders before he became king. (PROSE: The Man Who Wouldn't Give Up)
