Camilla Parker-Bowles
Camilla Parker-Bowles, (PROSE: Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...["Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"]) later known as Queen Camilla, was the consort of King Charles III of the United Kingdom. When the Tenth Doctor found that Edward VII had disappeared along with Balmoral Castle in 1902, he warned that the future of the royal family, along with the rest of history, was threatened. This meant that, along with the rest of his successors, there would be no Charles III and Queen Camilla. (PROSE: Revenge of the Judoon [+]Loading...["Revenge of the Judoon (novel)"])
Charles and Camilla were popular items of gossip in 2005. Yvonne Hartman remarked that they would be a fad in a couple of weeks. (AUDIO: One Rule [+]Loading...["One Rule (audio story)"])
In 2010, two Automatons came to Earth in search of their planet's estranged crown prince, asking for "the son and heir." Hoping that it would make them leave, Clyde Langer responded, "You can definitely have Prince Charles! Take Camilla too, if you want." When the Tenth Doctor explained to Rose Tyler that Reinette had plans of being King Louis XV's mistress, as he already had a queen, Rose responded, "Oh, I get it. Camilla," which Mickey Smith found amusing. (TV: The Girl in the Fireplace [+]Loading...["The Girl in the Fireplace (TV story)"])
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- King Charles had met Camilla before his first wife, Princess Diana, but it's been reported that she would have been considered an "unsuitable" match by the palace; the two had an affair during his first marriage. The Girl in the Fireplace, filmed and first aired while Charles and Camilla were still the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and the presumptive successors to Elizabeth II, references this to quickly explain Reinette and Louis' relationship.
- Camilla married Charles in 2005, which Yvonne Hartman alludes to in One Rule [+]Loading...["One Rule (audio story)"]. The ceremony took place on 9 April, the day that The Unquiet Dead was first broadcast. The immediate lead-up to the ceremony was also the main cover story of the previous week's issue of Radio Times.
- In 2013, Charles and Camilla paid a visit to the TARDIS set at BBC Wales' Roath Lock studios where they met Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman as well as posing with Daleks and Cybermen.[1]
- In the real world, Charles and Camilla became King and Queen in 2022, 14 years after the publication of Revenge of the Judoon, and three years after the book's writer Terrance Dicks died.
- It had been long speculated that Camilla would not assume the title of Queen upon her husband's accession to the throne, but would instead be known as 'Princess consort'. However, in 2022, Queen Elizabeth II announced in her Accession Day message that it was her 'sincere wish' for Camilla to be known as Queen when Charles becomes King.[2] In Revenge of the Judoon, Terrance Dicks correctly predicts that Camilla would be known as Queen.
- She was portrayed by Jane How in Charles and Diana: Unhappily Ever After, Olivia Poulet in Whatever Love Means, Carolyn Pickles in Prince William and Joanna Van Gyseghem in the 2009 docudrama The Queen.
