Cyclotron

A cyclotron, also known as a proton accelerator, (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians) was a device which used increasing electromagnetic fields to accelerate particles in a circular pattern. (TV: The Claws of Axos) They were generally used for the purposes of research into the atom. (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians)

Cyclotrons were found in laboratories with which both the First Doctor and Ian Chesterton were familiar. When the Morpho hypnotised them, they both imagined seeing a cyclotron in the "laboratory" which they were provided. (TV: "The Velvet Web")

The cyclotron at the Wenley Moor nuclear research facility (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians)

The Wenley Moor nuclear research facility used a cyclotron in its experiments, which was powered by a nuclear reactor due to the large amounts of power required. (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians) Nuton Power Complex also utilised a cyclotron for experimental purposes. (TV: The Claws of Axos)

Professor Winser hoped to use a cyclotron to accelerate particles past the speed of light and cause them to travel through the fourth dimension, to perform experiments regarding the nature of time and make time travel possible. (TV: The Claws of Axos)
