Herbert George Wells, (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946) often called H. G. Wells, was an English writer widely credited as "the father of science fiction". He wrote 51 novels and over 100 short stories, as well as a number of non-fiction books and articles.
In the first thirty issues of Doctor Who Weekly, the ongoing Tales from the TARDIS featured comic adaptations of three of Wells' novels: The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, and The First Men in the Moon. Wells was credited as the author of the stories, although each one was extensively abridged and adapted by Marvel Comics writers. The adaptations had previously been printed in the Marvel Classic Comics series.
A fictional version of Wells appeared in the Sixth Doctor television story Timelash and later featured as a companion of Edward Travers in Candy Jar Books' Lethbridge-Stewart and Travers & Wells series.
