In one possible scenario, just before Hernán Cortés arrived in Mexico, the Dalek Emperor — after being damaged by Bad Wolf — crashed. The Emperor found the Aztecs and offered Moctezuma defence from the invading conquistadors in exchange for sacrifices and gold so that he could create new, golden Daleks.
