Joseph (mythology)

Joseph was a carpenter and a descendant of King David. When Caesar Augustus decreed that governors conduct the Census of Quirinius in 6 AD, Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem with his pregnant wife, Mary. Upon reaching the town, they found that all the rooms at the inn had been taken, and Mary was forced to give birth in a stable. (PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac [+]Loading...["The Time Traveller's Almanac (reference book)"]) The Tenth Doctor noted that he got the last room. (TV: Voyage of the Damned [+]Loading...["Voyage of the Damned (TV story)"]) The child of Joseph and Mary was named Jesus. These events, when recounted in the Gospel of Saint Luke, formed the basis of the Christian celebration of Christmas. Rory Williams played Joseph, opposite Amy Pond as Mary, in their school nativity play. (COMIC: Imaginary Enemies [+]Loading...["Imaginary Enemies (comic story)"])
