Mary Turner
Mary Turner (born 16 July 1933[1]) was credited with puppetry supervision for most of the supermarionation television series Thunderbirds. This included the first series episode The Man from MI.5, which crossed over into the Doctor Who universe by featuring an appearance by the Daleks. She also worked as a character operator on the film Thunderbirds Are Go and a puppet coordinator on Thunderbird 6. She returned to the Thunderbirds franchise in 2015 by lending her services to the Thunderbirds 1965 project which produced visual adaptations of three audio stories from the 1960s.
Turner was also involved in several other creations of Gerry Anderson which shared crossovers with the DWU. She received credits for her varied work as a puppeteer or puppet maker on Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, and Joe 90. She had previously worked on the Anderson puppet show Four Feather Falls and later contributed to The Secret Service, the final television series to be filmed in supermarionation.
Among Turner's credits as a puppeteer are the 1986 film Labyrinth and, most recently, the television series Endeavour in 2019. She has also been a director on such productions as The Adventures of Rupert Bear. Turner was both director and producer for Here Comes Mumfie, Cloppa Castle and The Munch Bunch.
