New Hope for Ultra-Sonic Pilots! (short story)
New Hope for Ultra-Sonic Pilots! was a short story printed in TV Century 21 that contained elements from the Doctor Who universe. Framed as the front page of an in-universe periodical, the titular article made reference to the Captain Scarlet comic story Collision Course Threat! [+]Loading...["Collision Course Threat! (comic story)"], which was a crossover with the DWU.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
TV 21's science correspondent details the dangers faced by pilots since the advent of ultra-sonic aircraft. They state that the world's most proficient pilots have been killed in action for "too long" due to having no means of escape when enduring speeds of up to 7500 miles per hour, with ejection not an option due to the immense build-up of pressure outside the cockpit. However, the correspondent relays news that this may no longer be the case, as special tests are being carried out on a new form of escape system, though security reasons restricts the amount of information currently available.
Later, that evening, TV21 learns that the World Government Research Department has asked Spectrum to help them test their new escape system. Colonel White accepts the Government's request, while Captain Scarlet quickly volunteers to become the test guinea pig.
