From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
According to Greek mythology, Phorcys was a sea god and the father of Stheno, Euryale and Medusa. (TV: Eye of the Gorgon) A clawed crustacean, Phorcys dwelt in the Land of Fiction. When the Roman poet Ovid revised Medusa's story, adding a retconned origin in which she had originally been a human, Medusa forgot she had ever been related to Phorcys; however, her monstrous sisters remained as inexplicable reminders of her original past.
