During one flight to the surface, something went wrong and his shuttle crashed onto the planet, but his broken body was discovered and repaired by the [[Zoltan]]s. The ensuing peaceful contact between the two species made Fairley a celebrity and an enthusiastic spokesman for the Zoltans. Secretly, the Zoltans had obtained power over him when they operated on him, and used him to breed [[Zoltan soldier]]s to eliminate prominent anti-Zoltan persons, thus facilitating their colonization of Earth.
