:: Christina is a companion ''without the need of an argument'' because the BBC has called her one. We don't have such a stance with Osgood. ::: To be fair, though, the BBC has never declared River Song a companion either, yet people seem to have no issues calling her one. Possible compromise is to categorize her as "honorary companion" as has been done with Benton and Yates. Certainly the "must travel in the TARDIS" rule no longer applies (and never has, otherwise Liz Shaw wouldn't qualify as a companion). Let us return to the question at hand. However the production teams treated different characters over the years, the in-universe statement by the Doctor would always take precedence. And he said she is not his companion on the image upthread. For those who did not read the comic, he was not joking. He was stating the fact.
