After being sent back to the twentieth century with Shibac, she arrived to find the grange overrun with human-Pantophagen hybrids as well as three pure-blood Pantophagen, led by a mad Jalnik in a bid to destroy humanity. Ultimately, the Doctor was able to overload the machines that manipulated the crack in time, destroying the grange and sealing up the crack for good, thus averting the alternate timeline. With Shibac stuck in the twentieth century, Charlotte decided to take him in. According to John Dorney, who adapted the scripts of The Foe from the Future for audio, the only female character in the original draft was Leela. When it was adapted for The Lost Stories, Charlotte was added to the cast of characters, played by Louise Brearley. Neither Charlotte, nor any alternative version of the character, was part of the original script. Dorney included Charlotte as a sort of audience surrogate, and it was through interactions with her that a number of story elements were translated into the audio medium.
