 Early in his career, Derek Newark was a member of the Belgrade Theatre Company, whose members included Ian McKellan. Over the years, he appeared in episodes of the television series ''[[Wikipedia:Dixon of Dock Green|Dixon of Dock Green]]'', ''Dad's Army,'' ''[[Wikipedia:The Avengers (TV series)|The Avengers]],'' ''Rumpole of the Bailey,'' and ''Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em''.
