Species (When Starlight Grows Cold)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

The Second Doctor once encountered a species in the space between galaxies.

Members of the species were giants, nearly one hundred feet tall. They had grey, human-like heads with large mouths and a row of eyes around the top. They had no noses, as they dwelled in the vacuum of space. They had multiple limbs which ended in talons. They were technologically advanced, possessing a gigantic spherical spacecraft capable of intergalactic travel and cocoon-like objects which placed them in suspended animation, although the process allowed their hair and talons to continue to grow.

The Second Doctor, having materialised the TARDIS four quadrillion light-years from the nearest galaxy, picked up readings on the ship's biological probe. Intrigued, he and Ben Jackson put on spacesuits to investigate while Polly Wright stayed inside to monitor them. After seeing the gigantic spherical spacecraft, he decided to explore, despite Ben's misgivings. Inside, they discovered twelve members of the giant species asleep in cocoons, some of which were waking up and breaking out. The Doctor, utterly transfixed by the sight and lost in his thoughts about this new species, did not notice that Ben was dragging him back to the TARDIS. At first angry, he calmed down after Ben pointed out that the aliens were far too massive for them to defend against should they turn aggressive.
