Talk:Lobus Caecilius
From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
(Redirected from Talk:Lucius Caecilius Iucundus)
Rename to Lobus Caecilius[[edit source]]
The character introduces himself to the Doctor as Lobus Caecilius (spelling from http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00hzmlb) and is credited as simply Caecilius. The current name is speculation based upon the historical figure and his fictionalisation in the Cambridge Latin Course. --SawyerDN ☎ 01:49, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
- Furthermore, The Italian Job makes it abundantly clear that only the surname was nicked from the Cambridge books. In no way does RTD assert that this character is meant to be the historical figure. The name is a joke, just like all the Latin names in the episode are a joke. Absolutely uncontroversial page name change, since the character clearly gives his name in the episode, and Confidential gives us considerable detail about the naming conventions for the episode.

I must protest, as I found proof otherwise, this time on the official page of DW of BBC America, where he is explicitly referred to as Lucius Caecilius Iucundus. I'd rename it, but I rather have people first check this part to understand.--Kamikashi ☎ 02:05, September 21, 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, non-admins are strongly discouraged from moving/renaming pages in any case, as there are necessary steps that non-admins don't have the ability to do. And as you correctly noted, these things must be discussed first before a decision can be made.
- I'm not sure where BBC America ranks on the valid sources list, compared to the BBC of the UK, but it seems reasonable that the UK source is closer to the production staff. Shambala108 ☎ 02:32, September 21, 2014 (UTC).
