Talk:The Eternal Summer (audio story)
From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
Thanks for all the corrections SOTO! I'm still in the process of listening to the story so I'm just updating it as I go. Feel free to let me know of any issues in my plot-writing here. I'm trying to shorten my summaries because I've noticed on my last couple entries for other audios I've been writing waaaay too much detail to the point where I may as well just upload the script. Looking forward to finishing this trilogy with Plague of the Daleks, really enjoy the Stockbridge stories for some reason!– The preceding unsigned comment was added by DoctorQuoi (talk • contribs) .
- (The Eternal Summer is one of my absolute favourites!) It does take practice to get the hang of brevity with sufficient clarity, but it works just as well to write as you go and then ruthlessly edit at the end to keep things simple. Generally, bits that drive the plot forward or in a new direction are due a little more attention, but descriptions and actions that just lead to those important bits can be summarised with an extra two or three words in the next sentence, or deleted altogether.
- Obviously, a lot of the action in this story is the sort of minutiae we'd normally cut out: lots of asking questions and learning things that might come up later on. But still, anything like "The Doctor decides to go to X place. He takes Y transportation and arrives at X place, only to see Z character" can really be replaced by "At X place, the Doctor is surprised to see Z character" unless those details are plot-relevant.

- Understood! Thanks so much again, and I have started to pick up on that from reading your well-written summaries for other audio stories as I have been trying to use them as a template. Thank you for the other bit of advice though! Glad to hear it's a favourite of yours, I've really been enjoying this trilogy so far, but I adore the Rutans anyway so Castle of Fear was always on my list, but I just couldn't leave it on a cliffhanger!!
