We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff

Re: no personal attacks[[edit source]]
Hi! I will try to address all your points.
The thing is, you are still relatively new here, so you might not realize how seriously we take the Tardis:No personal attacks policy. We want everyone to feel welcome here, and when one user attacks another, it sends the opposite message to what we want. In this particular case, the user who was attacked had been part of the wiki for only two days. If we left this attack unpunished, the attacked user would most likely never edit here again.
Also in this particular case, this poll has been visited by a huge number of new users, and it sends a poor message if we let one user attack another user. This poll is a very public place; anyone who visits the recent activity page could see the first part of the attacker's message.
In addition, the attacker directly said "you are being ridiculous". That is a direct attack. A previous time on the forums a user had said something not quite as bad as this, and I gave him a warning, but another admin blocked him, stating that "such attacks obligate me to block you". This admin, who has been around here longer than I have. felt that such an action deserved a block. Thus I made my decision based on precedent.
As for a warning, admins are not really obligated to give warnings, but can do so if the circumstances allow. You might think that's harsh, but the truth is that every user, on joining the wiki, gets an automatic message on their talk page with a list of all our rules. Every user is bound by these rules, and it's in their best interests to read them. Admins can't force people to read them, but we can expect everyone to be bound by the rules.
You also stated that attacked users should talk to the attacker and/or an admin about the problem. While that's true, I don't know if a new user would know to do that. And that's more the case for when an attack happens and an admin doesn't see it. I saw it, because I patrol the busy forum pages, so I blocked the user for violating our most important policy.
Lastly, it's not up to any user, especially one not involved in the issue, to define whether it's a personal attack. That's the job of the admins, and frankly, you're better off not worrying about it. It's not exactly the fun job of the wiki. As long as you treat other users respectfully, you'll have no worries about this policy.
